Ni hao jia n i and ZA (hello and goodbye) are the first words that Jairo Garcia has taught his students.
For one week, one of the classrooms of the Youth Resource Centre has become an impromptu language class, in particular, in Mandarin Chinese.
The course is part of the T-LA (Alternative Leisure)'s Winter Youth Council. A class that teaches the Monday afternoon Jairo Garcia have enrolled 12 people with a common goal, learn to speak in this language and, who knows, maybe in the future to supplement the lack of translators and Mandarin Chinese language teachers in Spain.
The course lasts 18 months but has been divided into quarters.
For now, students learn the Pinyin system, ie, the phonetic transcription of Chinese characters western alphabet.
It's a way, as the teacher to facilitate learning.
The lessons are focused on learning Mandarin Chinese speaking. We will not focus much on writing, which is more complex, since for Jairo Garcia is now more important for students to communicate without problems in China .
The students' ages range from 25 to 40 years and have started learning Mandarin, mostly because, according to the teacher, other than English is a language most in demand today. There are many Chinese teacher shortage, translators in police stations, hospitals ...
and in the workplace are becoming more companies that import and export to China.
One of the reasons that prompted the Youth Council to offer a Mandarin Chinese course was the flood of requests, more than 400, which has received this year Official Language School of Murcia to study the language.
