The Cartagena, is the first of the great cities of the Region has joined the protocol for the Autonomous Region, included in the Covenant of Mayors signed by 6,000 mayors of municipalities in the European Union, aimed at monitoring 20,20,20 strategy, which is 20% lower energy consumption, increasing 20% renewable energy use by 20% and reduce CO2 emissions.
This accession has materialized today with the signing of an agreement between the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the Minister of Universities, Business and Research, José Ballesta, consisting in the elaboration of an Action Plan for Renewable Energy from a series of audits, which will be forthcoming recruitment, with which it will conduct a needs assessment of schools and municipal infrastructures.
For the mayor, this protocol is a continuation of savings in lighting measures that the City and has been doing since 2008, as the drop in power for lighting, reducing lighting points or the use of light bulbs, what has saved us 360,000 euros, while reducing CO2 emissions.
The same policy is being followed with concessionaires: cleaning, buses, etc..
