The Roman Theatre Museum, the most visited region in 2011 (12/01/2012)

The Roman Theatre of Cartagena and its museum has been visited in 2011 by over 136,000 people, making it the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the most visited national level.

71% of visits are individual and have occurred mainly in the months of April to September.

These are people vacationing on the coast and come to visit the city, but also stands out as significant data, the number of students and scholars of History, Art History, Archaeology and Architecture who have approached the monument.

Foreign visitors in 2011 have reached 42%, representing an increase of 15% compared to 2010, this increase is coupled with the gradual growth of the cruise ships that dock in our port.

As for group visits, the remaining 29%, 11% are Associations of Friends of Museums local, regional and local cultural associations, Senior trips and school groups from the region and lesser amount of Albacete, Alicante and Almeria.

To this is added 17% of visits by foreign groups, mostly from cruise ships that dock in the city, having produced in 2011 a growth of 3% over the previous year.

The data on the origin of visitors shows that 58% are from the national level, of which 14% are local and regional, and 44% come from other provinces.

Among the highlights domestic visitors to Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia.
