The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Maria Angeles Palacios, today visited the Quarry Center on Disability, in Cartagena, in which attention is given to 120 people with intellectual disabilities, where marks the seventh anniversary of its commissioning and coinciding with the celebration of World Disability Day.
During this anniversary day, the minister toured the facilities that will cater to users who come to it, under either the day center as a residence.
The Minister witnessed the performance of a play that, in leisure activities, carried out by workers in the center with users.
Palacios welcomed "by the great work done by professionals in our schools and the dedication they show to the people served."
He stressed the importance for people living with intellectual disabilities to participate in training programs such as those developed in quarries and "seek to improve their quality of life, promote personal autonomy and achieve better socialization."
On the occasion of World Disability Day, Palacios wanted to emphasize the social work done by the center staff and volunteers and family members who "work with professionalism and enormous enthusiasm and dedication to all inmates, while that support their families. "
The head of Health and Social Policy noted that "the social integration of disabled people is a task of all. From the Administration supplying the necessary human and material resources for treatment and improvement of society and believe that their integration and avoiding create situations of inequality and exclusion. "
Seven years in operation
Quarrying Occupational Center was opened in December 2004 and has capacity for 120 users, 80 residential places and 40 day care center.
A total of 138 healthcare workers carry out their duties and training, through integrated care and internal training and upgrading skills.
Among the programs implemented at the center include those relating to personal autonomy, in which basic skills work, from food hygiene, motor or multisensory stimulation and basal.
Social empowerment programs conducive to improving the process of socialization of users through actions in the areas of interaction, sharing space, recreation and leisure.
On the other hand, they also develop actions for improvement of behavioral disorders, communication and cognitive skills.
