group exhibition of art glass]
The group exhibition of contemporary Spanish artists who use glass in their works revolving around the theme of communication.
The title of the show Is there anybody there?
refers to communication, isolation, their means of expression and its difficulties.
The relationship with others is often complicated and full of confusion, so that sometimes we may think that nobody listens to us, we are alone.
The message and the means to achieve the desired communication is expressed in different ways by the authors that are presented.
Thus we see the emptiness of absence on the part of Pilar Aldana, pages clear glass - blank, the installation of Monika Uz, seeds containing bits of information flying waving in the wind, the group Comglas, the Lorena Valdeperez mirrors, the weight of the beauty and tradition of the work of Yolanda Tabanera, the unattainable desire or exposure Ricardo Calero gritty Crystal Body Javier Velasco.
The title contains an ulterior motive, is there anyone there?
Are there any contemporary writers in Spain to use glass as a creative material?.
Today, many still wonder if the glass, a material linked to the domestic, to utilitarian and luxury it is also a vehicle of artistic expression.
Show the work of ten authors, from different parts of Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia and Seville), working the glass with your hands or not, but it is applied as a carrier of ideas, communication is the challenge also in this sample.
There are few occasions in Spain to see an exhibition of works in glass outside the two specialized museums: Museum of Art in Glass Alcorcón-MAVA and the Museum of the Royal Glass Factory at La Granja.
Even though, in recent years, many Spanish museums of contemporary art glass works are incorporating their permanent collections (Artium, Guggenheim, Patio Herreriano, etc).
The Polytechnic University of Cartagena offers this great opportunity to do so in a new space, recently renovated a former military barracks of the eighteenth century, near the port city.
The room, with all glass walls, is a light box, a huge window where glass facilities charge a very attractive dimension.
A rectangular sheet of water separates the exhibition hall of the administration building and classrooms of the University, it will be shown on the video installation by Miguel Soler, on glass, of course.
