The Municipal Archives is transported back in time to discover the origins of Cartagena and military visitors of the city.
The exhibition 50 years of military life in the garrison of Cartagena.
Events, people and institutions (1826 -1925), which can be seen from today until January 10, contains a collection of unpublished pieces, including bibliographic documents, maps, military mapping, two hundred original uniforms and scale lead figures , among other valuable pieces.
The exhibition is organized by the Commander Villamartin Classroom, sponsored by the Directorate General of Institutional Relations of the Ministry of Defense and the collaboration of the Municipal Archives and the Department of Culture.
The inauguration this morning has been attended by the Councillor for Women, Clara Hall, General Manager Force Protection of Navy, Luis Meléndez Pasquin, the director of Villamartín Hall, Juan Antonio Gomez-Vizcaino, and the commissioner of exposure, José María Gómez-Vizcaíno Pagan.
The collection belongs mostly to the Municipal Archives, while the uniforms and lead figures have been transferred from the private collection of Joseph Cartagena Flores Bernal.
As explained by the curator of the exhibition, the sample is distributed so that the visitor is immersed in the historical period from the moment you cross the door, thanks to the original uniforms, thumbnails, and pieces of great historical value.
The original documents and drawings also contribute to the understanding of one of the most important historical periods of the city.
The historical journey, as indicated by Juan Antonio Gomez-Vizcaino, Director of Classroom Villamartin, begins with the arrival of the battalion of the Third Marine Regiment of the North since the war.
The exhibition continues with the history of the torpedo school based in the city, the creation of the submarine base, and launching the first time since the reign of Philip V of a regiment which bore the name of the city.
Besides these events, the military characters who excelled in the life of the city during those years, and other aircraft including the famous Cartagena gave the city to the forces that were fighting in Africa, also leave their mark on the tour history that offers these days the Municipal Archives.
