The residents of Barrio de la Concepción are in luck this morning with the opening of the footbridge that improves communication with Cartagena.

NO COST TO THE CITY
The works carried out are an improvement offered by the company awarded the project to renovate and urbanization of Doctor Luis Calandre street, which cost around four million euros, was financed equally by the Autonomous Region and the Municipality of Cartagena 2010.
This improvement valued at one million euros, but without cost to the municipality or autonomous region, has consisted mainly in the construction of a footbridge attached to the bridge of the Barrio de la Concepción, as well as the renovation of the old bridge, providing for more lighting, sidewalk two feet wide, a new pavement and increased security measures for both pedestrians and vehicles.
The bridge is 58 meters long which saves the channel of the Rambla de Benipila.
It is built in pieces on a metal frame supported by a tight and arch nine meters high.
At both ends of bridge piers is founded by 20 meters deep and its surface has been paved with wood.
OLD BRIDGE, refurbish
As the bridge has been fully renovated to increase its security and lighting.
Among other things, has undertaken a redistribution of the space by moving the axis of the road, and that removing the sidewalk adjacent to the pedestrian walkway, it has been extended to two meters wide, the one on the other side.

Just this last area, on Calle Real, there have been other complementary activities have included improving access to the construction of pedestrian ramps at the same height as the driveway, eliminating steps, and eucalyptus trees have been pruned, up to five meters tall and their tops have been cut to 15 meters.
Work began in mid-year and its completion comes in response to an old aspiration of the residents of Barrio de la Concepción who daily crossed, with obvious insecurity and discomfort, the sidewalks of the bridge, just one meter wide .
