The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, the rector of the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), Salvador Ordóñez, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Miguel Martinez, signed today at the Palace Hall A collaboration agreement between the respective institutions for Cartagena establishment of a permanent seat of the university.
This initiative will represent a quantum leap as far as university education as it regards as the mayor pointed out, the presence of the UIMP in Cartagena opened the door to further studies of the supply UPCT, also linked to the tourism situation , industrial and business of the city.
Cartagena and Barcelona are the only two cities in Spain with permanent headquarters of the UIMP.
Salvador Ordonez stressed the consortium of the University system, which first takes into account the interests of the city and also works in partnership with management and entrepreneurs, we want to innovate in the production system, but always open to working with the university establishment, both with the UMU as UPCT, we must add, never subtract.
Thus, the short courses offered UIMP betting on new technologies, teaching in Spanish and English and, especially, postgraduate courses, masters of known quality by leading researchers.
The theme will focus on the sectors that stand out in the city, including tourism, shipbuilding, plastics and high tech.
The permanent headquarters of the International University Menéndez Pelayo in Cartagena has its administrative office in the building of the Chamber of Commerce in the port, in terms of centers in which the courses are given, the City shall make available to the UIMP part of its infrastructure, such as the Auditorium and Convention Center The Batel, the Roman Theatre and the Palace Molina.
