The V International Symposium on Food Technology these days in Cartagena together over 250 representatives of public and private organizations from some 15 countries today and tomorrow that will share the food industry needs and technological developments to benefit both consumers and companies.
Felix Faure, president of the UPCT, Nicholas Angel Bernal, Second Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Juan Hernandez Albarracin, director of INFO, and José García Gómez, president of the National Technology Center Food and Canning (CTC), inaugurated this morning the conference to be held at the Faculty of Science Enterprise UPCT, building of the former CIM.
This is the most important event on food technology at the European level, according to the director of INFO, Juan Hernandez, who has been held successfully for four editions.
Last year there were nearly 50 trade agreements between the participating entities.
The food industry in the region of Murcia is a strategic sector that has managed to resist the stakes of the crisis, said the president of the National Technology Center and Canned Food, José García Gómez.
New data shows García Gómez, recorded that 20% of exports in the region come from the food industry that also means 50% of the industry in the region and employs approximately 10,000 people.
According to García Gómez, the Region of Murcia, which originated in a rudimentary food industry, today sets the standard in innovation worldwide. This sector has always been slow but sure.
Today, we continue to work despite the financial difficulties but we maintain our business, says Garcia Gomez.
The V Symposium on food technologies runs parallel to the Technology Transfer Conference on Food Murcia 2011, which focuses the attention of researchers and companies around the world in the Region of Murcia.
