The City Council puts an end to landslides in the street Gisbert (10/10/2011)

The proposed excavation of the Monte de la Concepción Gisbert street, which has conducted the City Council through the Infrastructure Department to stop rock falls which had been going on nearby buildings in days of heavy rain, has come to an end with the removal of the promontory between that street and the building of research laboratories of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

The work, which had a budget of 265,000 euros, has been the demolition of the promontory, around 11,000 cubic meters of rock, whose place is planned to build a new road that will connect the streets and Lantern Moringa.

Before arriving at this solution, the city tried to curb the detachment through the consolidation of Mount installing a protective structure, but this initiative failed to address the problem, hence the decision to adopt a more drastic as was the final demolition promontory.

Remember that piece of Mount demolished, which stood about 22 meters from the roof of Market Street Gisbert, had caused accidents, some of them major incident, such as that which took place in October 2008, when 40 tons of rock fell on Traffic building.
