The director of the Agency met today with the councilors of Infrastructure, Sustainable Development and Finance for the implementation of actions aimed at promoting sustainable energy use, as the proposed biomass plant to be installed on the landfill of El Gorguel and could begin production before year-end
The City of Cartagena and the Bureau of Energy Management of the Region of Murcia, have taken a step in the collaborative effort to the implementation of energy saving projects in municipal facilities, a journey that began last May with the inclusion of Cartagena in the Covenant of Mayors.
So, this morning the council met for Infrastructure, Francisco Espejo, Sustainable Development, Palazón Carolina, and Finance, Fatima Suanzes with ARGEM managing director, Teodoro Garcia to talk about the commitment to follow the strategy 20,20,20 European Union, which is 20% lower energy consumption, increase by 20% renewable energy use by 20% and reduce CO2 emissions.
Teodoro Garcia pointed star theme meeting today in the Administration Building, a pilot project to Cartagena, in collaboration with the City and, later, with private companies in the municipality, called PAES (Action Plan for Renewable Energy) that is to analyze all energy consuming sectors of the city, while those located where to act to increase energy efficiency.

Another project moving into the energy saving and efficiency is promoted by the City Council, through Lhicarsa company, which has granted the company Biogas Seville Cartagena SL., Consisting of Energy in Southern Europe, the award to produce electricity in the municipal landfill in El Mina Regent Gorguel.
The Directorate General of Industry has given its approval to the project (BORM of September 27, 2011) and the company will install a biogas generation plant to 1,036 kWe, which generate energy for sale, using the methane gas that is formed in the subsoil of the landfill as a result of the decomposition of garbage.
Is expected to begin producing electricity by the end of the year.
The plant includes an engine generating one megawatt of power, as is outlined in the approved project, with capacity to supply over 2,500 homes a year.
The implementation period is 12 months and the cost of installation of the plant run entirely by the company.
In return, the money reverts to sell electricity in its entirety on the company.
According to the Councillor for Infrastructure, Francisco Espejo, this action will bring a double benefit for the municipality, as it saves the cost of degassing the basement of the landfill body, something that requires state environmental regulations because of the high methane emission levels generated in the basement, and on the other hand, the corresponding taxes will be raised by industrial activity, with a consequent positive impact on municipal coffers.
Translated into figures, the City would not only save cost 200,000 euros to the degassing of the law requiring him, but through Lhicarsa between 112,000 and 133,000 paid per year for their involvement in the sale of electricity generated.
These benefits are calculated on the work of an engine and could rise to 437,000 euros depending on the power generated, in case the gas quality of the glass allowed the installation of two engines.
