The state of abandonment in which traditionally has maintained the monument led to a first sanction in 1994.

From that moment the administrations concerned and responsible for its conservation (City of Cartagena and Ministry of Culture) have not taken a single step to prevent the degradation and the plundering continued the monastic and have settled to pass the time without ensure the safekeeping of the many decorative artistic elements were within the monastic building which now have disappeared.

For Martinez, "It is clear that municipality and autonomous region have irresponsibly neglected their obligations under our Constitution in the category of Spanish cultural heritage, Law 16/1985 HISTORIC HERITAGE SPANISH and decrees regulating the condition BIC, in regard to monastic San Ginés de la Jara. And for this neglect we find today with one of the oldest monasteries of the rich heritage and unique community of Murcia in dire condition, without any protection at the mercy of any unscrupulous as they have produced irreparable damage to the church, the cloister and other rooms and buildings, as well as we have seen-in situ. "

Given the seriousness of the situation, the Socialists consider necessary and appropriate concentration citizen last Thursday in defense of the Monastery of San Ginés (BIC). And once again urge again that urgent action is ordered on the heritage of all Spanish aimed at ensuring compliance of Decree 24/1992 of 28 February (BORM No 93 of 22.4.1992), while order and watch-officially-open the relevant report to the relevant administration enable accountability for this crime to the heritage and ensure the survival of the artistic legacy for all to enjoy.
