New pop Catalan and fado, now La Mar de Músicas (19/07/2011)

The new Catalan pop has broken borders.

Many groups do not flag their language, but merely to use it.

There is an emerging phenomenon, which sells records and engage the public in Spain.

And as a starting point of this movement has the Majorcan group Antiochus ² nia Font.

Lamparetes released their new album in mid-April, after five years of silence.

Will present at the Mar de Músicas Tuesday July 19 at the Town Hall at 20.00 hours.

And they do replacing Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, who have suspended their European tour for the month of July.

In another scenario, the Old Cathedral, and another hour, 22.30, Portuguese singer Ana Moura give his concert, the only one in Spain, 15 euro entry.

Moura has sung with the Rolling Stones and Prince.

What more could you?

Trivia aside, the young Portuguese is one of the most prominent female voices of fado.

Belongs to that generation which was brilliant occupying the void left by Amalia Rodrigues, who died in 1999, which contains as Mariza Fado, Mafalda Arnauth, Katia Guerreiro, Cristina Branco, Joana Amendoeira, Ana Sofia Varela, Raquel Tavares, Carminha .. .

not forgetting the pioneer Mísia.

Like so many of them, Ana Moura has sung many nights in Lisbon fado houses. We all have one thing in common is the desire to renew the fado, he said one day Larry Rohter of The New York Times.

FONT ANTÃ'NIA

A few days ago that the quartet was known Manel Barcelona just won a small feat with his second album, 10 miles per veure a bona armor, making it the first album sung by a pop group in Catalan, which reached number one on the list best-seller in Spain.

Manel not come from nothing, this irresistible foursome crossing folk, indie band of people and is part of a relatively new breed of artists who have forever changed the way we saw the music sung in Catalan and has Font Antiochus ² nia as a reference.

Antiochus ² nia Font is a group formed in 1997 in Mallorca with a music characterized by its light-hearted and wonderful letters.

Letters with a point dreamlike sound and catchy melodies worked.

Common themes in their music are the space, astronomy, astronautics, robotics, sea ...

The quintet has returned to Mallorca arena after years of rest from his last job i sing and sew the whole tour which meant the same, and does so with his sixth studio Lamparetes, first published from his own label Innocase Robot, and the who entered a firm foothold in the official sales list.

Something that shows clearly the current momentum within pop Catalan and that Antiochus ² nia Font is partly responsible for more than a decade even now when everything seems to have arisen.

With Lamparetes, Pau Debon (vocals), Joan Miquel Oliver (guitar and composer), Jaume Manresa (keyboards), Joan Roca (bass) and Manel Pere Debon (drums), renew the identifying sign of his trademark pop.

The disc contains unlike his previous works have been composed with less electronic elements of which we were accustomed, in this case relieved by a greater and acoustic guitars.

His lyrics, normal strength of the band, also represent an evolution in the lyrical theme of being less cryptic and more direct, without losing one iota of originality.

Movement or coincidence, the current Catalan boiling pop owes a lot to Antiochus ² nia Font.

Earlier this decade, its optimistic lyrics pop and cosmic no political content was the first to break the clichés of the dying Catalan rock of the nineties.
