The image of the Virgen de los Remedios, who stood in the chapel of the cemetery Remedios St. Lucia, and look again at its best after three and a half months of painstaking work by the municipal workshop of restoration.
The picture dates from 1786 and the sculptor José Esteve Bonet Valencia, a contemporary artist Francisco Salzillo, who was a sculptor to Charles IV and it belongs to a very large part of the sculptural production that remains in Valencia, including important work in the cathedral, as explained by the Councillor for Culture Rosario Montero this morning to the media.
The size restored discussed these days in the Molina Palace before returning to its original location in the Chapel of Remedios.
The Virgin can be accessed by anyone wanting to see one of the jewels of the eighteenth century, despite the passage of time, has preserved almost intact the original materials: wood, oil and gold at the base.
THOROUGH WORK-BASED BISTURÃ
Restoration work has focused on eliminating repainting and metal that had been added to over time, as explained by the restorers who have worked in height, Tania Soler and María Pérez.
To avoid damaging the original background, the restorers have cleaned the knife on the basis of size, without using corrosive solvents for wood.
Then, the color has returned, respecting the original paint and varnish introduced to upload ringtones and level things, has indicated Tania Soler.
The work, detailed and thorough, has uncovered subtle elements that once seemed like a few small flowers on the back of the robe of the Virgin.
Also, the wings were rebuilt one of the three angels who decorate the carving, which once was restored plaster base and now has refined wood pulp with a much stronger and resilient.
The Virgin is the second image of the Chapel of the Remedies to be restored to the municipal workshop, after the work is done with the stature of Christ.
Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, also announced that there are still many pieces and furniture in need of restoration and it will work soon in the municipal workshop.
