The assault ship Juan Carlos I made a stop in Cartagena (13/05/2011)

This morning he called at Cartagena the amphibious assault ship of the Armada Juan Carlos I (L-61), classified as Strategic Projection Ship (BPE).

The largest ship of the Navy will remain docked at the Quai de la Curra from today until Monday when leaving for other Mediterranean ports to continue a journey of performance test systems and equipment installed in the vessel.

The Juan Carlos I is the larger boat and tonnage of the Spanish Armada, with dimensions of 230 meters long and 32 meters wide.

It has capacity for 1,200 soldiers, four decks (heavy load, light load, habitability and flight deck), and currently has an armament of 4 guns and 4 machine guns.

The vessel sailed on 3 May the Rota naval base, made ​​his first stop in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria last May 6 and, after passing through Cartagena, will continue its journey for a month for several Mediterranean ports and Toulon, Istanbul and Ceuta.

The ship was built in 2008 by the Spanish company Navantia shipyard in Ferrol.

VISITING HOURS

The amphibious assault ship Juan Carlos I will open to the public during their stay in Cartagena this weekend.

Can be visited on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May at the Quai de la Curra on schedule d and 10.30 to 13.30 hours and 15.00 to 19.00, according to the Ministry of Defence.
