The coordinator of IU-Greens in Cartagena, Jaime Cayetano Molto, has petitioned the European Parliament (EP) to display "vigilante" on the "high impact" that would build a container terminal in the hold of the Gorguel.
Molto Jaime refer to the European body has a report which sets out in detail the damage that would cause this work on the environment of the beach, protected by the Natura 2000 network and listed as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).
According to the ruling left-wing formation, the terminal would impact the environment and landscape "very negative" for the terrestrial, marine, geological and mining, and also could prevent the regeneration of the Portman Bay, near the area.
In addition, he pointed out that the work is incompatible with the preservation and enhancement of the archaeological site of the beach, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
