Drug Talk opens to the public on the esplanade of the port (25/03/2011)

Remain installed until April 23 and allows visitors to, among other things, to simulate driving under the influence of alcohol or try to guess which characters of a sequence are hooked on cannabis

How drugs affect the brain, organs and our behavior?

These and other questions will be answered the people who visit the exhibition to talk about drugs, which is installed in the forecourt of the Heroes of Cavite and Santiago de Cuba, at the port of Cartagena, and will run until April 23.

The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, the Councillor for Culture, Maria del Rosario Montero, the director of business area of La Caixa in Cartagena, Álvaro Michelangelo, and Lluís Reverter, secretary general of the Caixa Foundation, and Director General of Citizen Services, Addictions and Consumption, Juan Manuel Ruiz, among other officials, presented the exhibition this morning.

It is part of the program devoted to the prevention of drug use in the Obra Social La Caixa, a foundation to which the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, wanted to thank you for your support over many years to reclamation of the old city .

EXPERIENCE THE REAL EFFECTS

The exhibition, presented in an interactive way, aims to raise awareness and prevent young people to drugs, providing information resources, guidance and training to families, the education community, health professionals and youth.

The sample is divided into 10 areas, beginning with the information in figures on the social impact of drugs, the expansion of consumption worldwide, the effects and causes.

Through interactive and audio modules, the visitor will discover the effects of drugs on the brain and behavior.

Visitors can view a simulation of the actual effects would be driving under the influence of alcohol or marijuana or guess what the characters displayed in a sequence of daily activity are involved in addiction.

Also, discover through life-size figures which parts of the body are most affected by the major drug consumption.

DRUG PROBLEM ALL

Let Drug exposure is intended for all audiences, as explained by the Secretary General of La Caixa, Lluis Reverter, which has indicated that t he goal is to provide a critical awareness of a real problem sometimes is not given the importance it deserves and which has even led to destroy the structure of a state in countries like Mexico.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use in Secondary School Students, 2008 (ESTUDES), the average age of onset of psychoactive substance use has been declining gradually.

About 3 in every 4 students aged between 14 and 18 have tried alcohol, 15% smoke daily snuff and 5% have used cocaine on more than one occasion.

The program's drug Let the Caixa Foundation was awarded on 8 November with the Reina Sofía drugs in the category of Social Work, as a prevention project based on the effects of drugs on the brain, health and behavior of individuals.

SCHEDULE TO THE PUBLIC

Families and the general public: Monday to Friday 9.30 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 21.00 pm Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10.30 to 14.30 and from 16.30 to 21.30 hours.

For guided tours, Tuesday-Friday, at 19.30 hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 12.30 and 19.30 hours.

La Fundación La Caixa offers guided tours for the general public, with trainers in drug prevention.
