The city of Cartagena in 2010 collected a total of 15,870 liters of used cooking oil, 2,000 liters in 2009, which collected 13,521 liters, and more than double those reported in 2008, which were collected 6,612 liters , when the city of Cartagena, through the Department of Sustainable Development, launched the program of selective collection of used cooking oil.
This is reflected in the report prepared by Aert (Association of Collection, Treatment and Recycling of oils and fats), which is in charge of this work, and study the collection volumes to assess the feasibility of existing points, for future relocations, withdrawals or additions of containers.
With regard to the points and the volume of collection, there are now 37 points running around the town, most of them (about 24), located in neighborhood associations and other supermarkets and shopping centers.
According to data provided by AERT, the most effective are those in business environments such as the Eroski (with 5,300 liters collected), the supermarket Day of Peak (1,555 liters) and the container itself Mall Peak (1,540 liters).
Also noteworthy are the figures contained in the Day of the Media Room (950 liters), the DIA Artist Market Street Portela (875 liters) and the Association of Residents of Barrio Peral (775 liters).
While the collection efficiency is more than proven in malls, not in the neighborhood associations, most of which have been collected less than 30 liters per month, which is making the City Council raised the removal and possible relocation of some of these points.
Keep in mind that acceptable performance is one for which the collection is over 50 liters per month.
