The celebration yesterday of the XVIII Media Marathon Ciudad de Cartagena defied the weather and managed to gather nearly a hundred more runners than last year, reaching 642 of the 712 participants who had registered.
In the end, the athlete tosher David Sánchez Romero, Lorca Eliocroca Club, first came to the finish line after making the journey in 1 hour, 12 minutes and 28 seconds, followed by two riders from Mandarache Cartagena, Juan García Gen, who was second , and Matthew Fish, who finished third.
As for the female category, 44 women ran the Half Marathon, being Wafiya Benali, Club Marathon Cartagena, the first with a time of 1 hour, 23 minutes and 55 seconds, followed by Mercedes Merino, the Eliocroca, and Esther Sanchez, the Mandarache.
A variety of gifts were raffled between all participants and the first in each category, took bonds spa sessions, hams and bottles of wine, finishing the track with a great paella for 700 people.
The test passed without serious incidents occur, although there was much attention to brokers by the medical services coordinated by the Sports Department.
Remember that some thirty local police, civil protection and sports 70 volunteers watched over the safety of the race throughout the course of it.
