Unemployment has increased in Cartagena in February by 1.7%, a figure that is one point lower than the regional and a tenth higher than the national average.
These data mean that this month has been the best February in unemployment since 2005, according to the council of Greater Employment, Javier Herrero.
Cartagena has 323 more unemployed this month and that's not good news, but unemployment is still slowing and there is an increase in hiring and must cover all the data to make a more accurate analysis of our situation, says Smith.
For the council, one of the most important figures is the interannual.
Smith emphasized that since last February in Cartagena unemployment has grown by 3%, a percentage that is half the regional average (6%) and the fourth less than the national average (4%).
MORE CONTRACTS
In addition, changes in the number of contracts has been positive.
The number of recruits this month was 24% higher than last February with 1,300 contracts and increased more significant especially in the services sector, which has generated more than 1,024 contracts in February 2010.
Javier Herrero believes that the best evolution of the services sector is important in a city that has worked to grow on tourism and is an encouragement to the initiatives that have been developed from the Municipal government and the business of Cartagena.
Despite all this, according to the council of Greater Employment, Cartagena has 19,199 unemployed because it shares the problems of the rest of the national economy, which arise from the absence of effective structural measures and lack of trust within and outside Spain because of erratic economic policies.
In February 2010, unemployment increased by 2.46% in Cartagena, in 2009, 4.35% and in 2008 the increase was 5.52%.
