Symposium on the architecture of Roman Theatre in Cartagena (17/02/2011)

Next Tuesday, February 22 Roman Theatre Museum welcomes the submission of the proceedings of International Symposium scenic facades, revealing the book scaenae frons in the Roman theater architecture. This important appointment with the classic architecture brings to the Foundation Teatro Romano de Cartagena at the forefront of international institutions dedicated to scientific research in these areas.

The publication brings together the papers presented at the International Symposium held in Cartagena from 12 and 14 March 2009, organized by the Fundación Teatro Romano de Cartagena, Murcia University and the German Archaeological Institute.

At the conference, to be held at 20.00 am in the Auditorium of the Museo del Teatro Romano, participating architects and archaeologists from fifteen European institutions like the University Complutense of Madrid, La Sapienza of Rome, the University of Wiesbaden (Germany) and the University of Lyon.

The presentation will intervene Rosario Montero, Councillor of Culture of the City of Cartagena, Elena Ruiz Valdez, director of the Museo del Teatro Romano, Enrique Ujaldón, Director General of Fine Arts and Cultural Cobacho José Antonio Gómez, Rector of the University of Murcia; Sebastian Ramallo, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Murcia and Pascual Martínez, Manager of the Foundation Cajamurcia.

The presentations will focus on the recovery of Carthago Nova Theater and the construction of the Museum Annex, delving into lesser-known aspects of the Roman theater architecture as design theorist scaenae frons, the metric relations between the various components of the building, changes architecture of the front stage and possible regional variations and postscaenium joint.
