Understanding and desire to party, equally breathing this morning at the check presentation ceremony for the City by the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, Carnival 2011, grants amounting to 117,000 euros this year compared with 130,000 in the previous edition .
This reduced 13,000 euros, as the mayor explained, is logical and understandable in times of crisis, in which we have to tighten their belts in spending on leisure and cultural events not to touch the budget of the Department of Social Services for very needy people of the municipality.
Thus, although every year the municipal grants for the holidays have been increasing, Pilar Barreiro explained this year there will be no choice but to reduce expenses for such events, until the economic situation improves.
For its part, the president of the Carnival Committee, Carmen Sanchez, who has collected the check accompanied by the Councillor of Celebration, Florentina Garcia Vargas, has been satisfied with the amount contributed by the City for the holidays and has ensured that reduction in the amount of money will not detract one iota from spectacular to those already known as anti-crisis Carnival, which will even be better than last year.
