10 Feb. '11 .- The representatives of 43 clubs over the city of Cartagena have met with the Social Care Committee, headed by Councilman Antonio Calderon, to listen to demands and concerns to improve the quality of life elderly.
This group has highlighted the significant investment made by the municipal government of the PP in the last term, with the construction, expansion and equipping of social premises where the activities of the various programs for the elderly, who currently represent 14 , 5% of the population.
Calderón has said that "these actions reflect a need given the growth of the population and serve to help slow the dependence of this important sector of the population of Cartagena."
Notably, the new premises for the elderly built in the Barrio de San Gines, in the County of Santa Ana, Isla Plana, in the Albujón and the Barrio de Los Dolores, also the location of these groups in new buildings and remodeling of 12 stores that have made social in the town of Cartagena.
The council thanked the support of the clubs in the current economic crisis experienced by the Spanish territory and serving an average of 200 people per site.
Thus, Calderón has called for greater efforts by this group, through the cooperation of neighbors to inform the elderly who live alone or in the street, and need to be addressed.
In this sense, the clubs have demanded more information about services offered by the council and training on the operation of the law of dependence.
Calderón recalled the services available to the city of Cartagena to serve the elderly, "such as home help, telecare and numerous workshops and training courses and cultural place throughout the year."
It is recalled that the Region of Murcia was one of the first regions in implementing the Law Unit, which currently is above the national average in social aid.
