The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, has called on city officials, associations and citizens to join the silent demonstration that took place this afternoon at the gates of the Town Hall, in protest at the violent death of a neighbor of Los Belones.
The woman, 34, was found dead yesterday by his 9 year old daughter returned from school, at his home in Los Belones.
The victim had several stab wounds to the abdomen and everything points to his relationship with the deceased as the alleged perpetrator of this violent death.
Given what looks like a new case of domestic violence, the mayor wanted to condemn the terrible act perpetrated yesterday and move the sympathies of the people of Cartagena to the victim's family, especially his young daughter had to go through a bitter drink.
In this regard, Barreiro has called for reflection on the citizens to also participate in awareness-raising events such as today, to cooperate with the authorities and report acts of domestic violence occurring know or around you, as the major problem of violence within the home and within families, is that the victim does not dare to complaint and this prevents us to give them protection, said the mayor.
In 2010 there were 241 complaints of domestic violence in Cartagena, much of which resulted in the adoption of protective measures and 111 convictions.
