Ecologists in Action requested in writing to the Cartagena Port Authority to prepare a detailed analysis which quantifies all direct jobs and indirect which would create the hypothetical new Container Terminal at El Gorguel and Activities Zone (ZAL) attached, and the type of work and qualifications.
Ecologists in Action requested in writing last December that detailing the amount and quality of jobs that would create the hypothetical Gorguel Terminal and the adjacent ZAL, both in its implementation phase as in operating and that the 5,000 jobs that proclaims the port authority in the construction phase as well as the 1500-2000 fixed on the holding are not reflected in any document or quantified so far, a fact that is seen from this group as arbitrary figures which attempts to justify an abhorrent and unjustifiable project from the environmental point of view, and incompatible with the necessary regeneration of the bay of Portman.
To this request, the Port Authority of Cartagena (APC) answered that they are preparing the Environmental Sustainability Report (ISA) with the requirements established by the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine where if you include all studies and assessments including those Ecologists in Action from request.
As this group knows, the ISA must include a detailed analysis of all aspects to take into account environmental, social and economic, among them the jobs they create.
Therefore, Ecologists in Action believes that if the CPA does not have a detailed report of all these jobs and the skills they need, should not randomly shuffling figures to make your project more attractive to the local population, including which is an important part that is against the project, despite these dubious promises of work.
And this association wonders what will become of the 5,000 workers supposed to generate the construction, "occur as the expansion of the Repsol refinery in the Valley of tailings in which there are about 6,000 workers (although it's been about 15,000 ), of which only 300 workers are needed in the new facility?
This group believes this kind of job opportunities as "bread for today, hunger tomorrow, and that these works would have a limited period of time.
For this group, one thing is clear, biodiversity and natural wealth that holds the Gorguel are true and recognized by the European Union, as well as the cultural, geological and mining have also recognition from the competent government.
These facts and the environmental impact that would result in the implementation of this project are undeniable, and that directly affect the areas of Natura 2000 and historical values of the coastal and inland areas that have been perpetuated over the years and that are necessary to protect historical heritage and natural wealth of the Region of Murcia.
Ecologists in Action insists that since the port authority is disposed Gorguel option as an enclave for this project and to adequately assess other alternatives that take into account the most out of existing facilities, as is the case of tailings (which was planned for container traffic and remains unfinished) o Camachos, which do not require a financial outlay so high, and cause environmental degradation such as that you want to undertake.
Also urges the APC to be exempted from release figures unjustified and interested in the air, promising jobs to thousands of people from the local population, until it has a serious document in hand to justify these jobs.
