This is the result of the campaign that has been developed over the years 2010 to control these pets, especially those identified as dangerous, and avoid incidents in public places
Local Police has processed over 2010 a total of 120 complaints through the Department of Decentralization and Health, for violating the municipal ordinance on the protection and ownership of pets, which requires owners or possessors of dogs in addition to providing Canine Health Card, to have them counted and identified by microchip implantation, and to have the appropriate administrative leave in the event that these animals are listed as potentially dangerous.
Breaches of the ordinance are punishable by fines ranging from the mildest of 30 euros, even the most severe, amounting to 3,000 euros.
The role of local police is to enforce the ordinance and for that, since April have a microchip reader, facilitated by the municipality of Treatment Shelter Pets (CATAD).
The effectiveness of this performance can be seen through a significant fact is that, since delivery of the equipment, have seen an increase in requests for technical reports, census and a 200% increase in applications to obtain Licensing of Potentially Dangerous Animals (AAPP) for the year 2009.
It should be noted that under the ordinance, these dogs must wear muzzles in public areas for and are allowed to enter the arena of public beaches and bathing areas, a provision which is usually one of the least respected during the summer.
The training of local police officers in charge of these matters, has completed the first course of Domestic Animal Control, which was held last March through the School of Public Safety.
The course objective was to raise awareness of the influence of urban animals and their interaction with men as well as communicable diseases and, finally, operation and management of animal identification systems.
