The mayor of Alcala de Henares, Bartolomé González, delivered late yesterday afternoon, the prize Alcalá World Heritage City, the City of Cartagena.
The award was given to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of the declaration as a city Alcalá de Henares Heritage, and was picked by the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro.
This award, which annually recognizes the efforts of cities, organizations and individuals for the benefit of the heritage of men, was awarded in previous years to cities such as Guanajuato, Tarragona or Atapuerca project leaders.
Cartagena's candidacy, elected unanimously, had been given by the Department of Ancient History at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
According to Bartolome Gonzalez, the recovery of the historical legacy of Cartagena and its integration into the urban fabric deserve any kind of recognition from cities such as Alcalá, base much of their strategy in the Heritage City and its full integration, not only in the urban structure, but also in economic and social.
The mayor Complutense, the most noble function of these awards is, in fact, bear witness to those great economic projects being developed in cities that make their future based on his legacy and live with him.
