Xavier Nieto was today named the new director of National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (arched), in Cartagena.
Nieto joins ARQUA Division after a long and distinguished scientific career and linked to the underwater heritage.
Holds a PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and associate professor at the University of Barcelona where she teaches sailing and underwater archeology.
Also belongs to ARQUA Board, and served as adviser to the exhibition of the Museum project.
He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia and to date he held the position of director of the Center for Underwater Archaeology of Catalonia.
Internationally he has participated in projects of the Council of Europe and UNESCO related to the underwater heritage.
Our country is a member of the Scientific Committee of the National Development Plan for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture), which among other things, drafted the Green Paper of the Plan.
He has participated and directed many excavations and projects of national and international research on underwater archeology and has authored more than a dozen books and over fifty articles on the subject.
