Unity is strength, and with this leitmotif has created the Judicial Section of the local police against gender violence, an initiative to coordinate the actions carried out from the departments of Public Safety, Women Social care of the City of Cartagena, in order to ensure the protection of victims of gender violence for 24 hours a day and throughout the process.
The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, has been commissioned to present today this new section, a tool provided with more staff and resources, which in turn result in faster and effective interventions to eliminate this social evil.
The team comprises 17 people: a sergeant, a corporal, ten actors, a couple of agents to monitor truancy and three more reinforcing agents.
As for the work of this new section will be in charge of the first steps in the legal field, information services offered by Councillors for Women and Social Care and monitoring of court protection orders, among other issues.
This, in conjunction with National Police and Civil Guard.
To Barreiro, the most novel and important part of this action is that there will be a coordinated monitoring of domestic violence cases from beginning to end, from prevention, response to all victims, both women and children, who are affected the family for this type of violence and its consequences.
ALARMING REALITY
Far from diminishing, the data on gender violence in 2010 show how terrible the situation by its size.
From January to October this year, 104 have been issued orders of protection, 102 convictions for ill-treatment, there have been 206 complaints and 180 women have been met for the first time in the CAVI (Care Centre for victims of violence).
As the number of women who have received care at the social level, no police or legal, it rises to 43, the 460 individual psychological care and legal assistance to 257.
