The Youth Council, in response to the urgent call by the Caritas food need to serve families in their soup kitchen, has launched a campaign to collect food, under the theme The image most people suffer than they imagine, and is already in operation since 1 November 5 until 8 January, with the aim of collecting non-perishable food for needy families in the municipality.
The chairman of the Youth Council, Manuel Soler, the pastor of San Diego, Joaquín Ferrando and as representative of Caritas Cartagena, who also works in this action, Antonio Nicol, have been in charge of presenting this campaign in 16 collaborating secondary schools and high school, calling on citizens to show solidarity with the poor people.
Through this campaign, explained Manuel Soler, is intended to reach young people and citizens the need for solidarity Cartagena to help ease such dramatic needs for which many families are going through the municipality.
In addition, this year to encourage young people from colleges, among all classes that have collected more food, will be raffled, with the collaboration of the Department of Youth, a program tour T-LA, the ice rink in Elche with the objective of enjoying a fun day with their peers.
Collaboration in this campaign will be through the provision of foods such as biscuits, oil, vegetables, cereals, juices or milk.
These will be handed over to Caritas San Diego Cartagena.
The campaign which was held last year and which raised a total of 4,000 kilos of food, recalled Soler, 50 families were able to attend, distributing to each one of them two bags.
At present, reported Antonio Nicol, Caritas Social Centre serves about 80 families, ie 30 more than last year.
Therefore, with this campaign, we want to encourage young people to contribute to this situation.
