The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today launched the rehabilitation works were carried out at the headquarters of the College Board of Trustees Sacred Heart in the historic city center port.
To Barreiro, this recovery was much needed and adds to those that have been carried out in recent years within the Façade Plan being carried out with the region and we have restored the facades in the historic 92 amounting to 6.5 million euros.
In this regard, the Minister explained that this action is an example of the collaboration agreement between regional and local administrations for the recovery of those most representative buildings of historic old town, the regional government that spends more than two million euros in the conservation of architectural and historical heritage of Cartagena.
The renovated building on which it has carried out the complete rehabilitation of the façade, is located at number 33, Rue Saura and is a listed building from the early twentieth century, three floors, with a three-arched entrance in the central body headed by a statue of the Sacred Heart.
The facade and wrought iron railings also with floral details and vegetables on balconies and windows, framed in the form of gable trim, and construction is topped by a cornice along the entire facade.
Through the work carried out cables are removed from the facade, have noticed the balcony slabs, moldings and brackets and the details of jambs and lintels, and was made of zinc treatment on the ledge.
Also recovered ceramic brick finishes and has made a comprehensive restoration of the image of the Sacred Heart by the sculptor Jorge Garcia Cartagena, with the recovery of all parts and the expressiveness of the figure.
The work performed in this building are part of the rehabilitation of nine properties to the 2009 annual Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Adequacy of facades, roofs and Medianeras 2007-2011, which is in collaboration between the Department of Architecture of the City of Cartagena and the regional government.
The cost of this action amounts to 65,000 euros, covered by the Autonomous Community (75%) and college (25%), while the City Council has taken over the technical direction and writing of the project.
