The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today held a meeting with Secretary General of Fermo, Joan Amorós, and members of its board, including the regional president of Caja Mediterráneo, Ă ngel Martínez, coinciding with the meeting in our city of this entrepreneurial multi-sector partnership created to promote major railway freight between the cities of the Western Mediterranean Basin, including Cartagena.
As stated by Barreiro, Fermo approach has brought us and know and share, which is the need to prioritize the Mediterranean axis freight, which will be included in the Region of Murcia and therefore, our city, so which I have made known to the leaders of this organization that the council support the proposal that will be in April in Brussels, as have also the national and regional government.
La Ferme proposal is the implementation of the Corridor of the Mediterranean, from Algeria to the French border, to the coast, representing a total investment of around 25,000 million euros, to be developed in stages, being the first and important to establish a third lane from the border to Cartagena, for 1,600 million euros, as stated Joan Amorós.
The third lane will allow the passage of international and national trains at once.
Ferme Secretary General has sought to highlight the fact that this investment, which supports both public and private participation, is significantly lower than those necessary for the implementation of the high speed, as in the first case the line already exists.
As an example, Amorós has put on the arrival of the AVE to Murcia, whose budget amounts to 10,000 million euros.
