The Cartagena Bubbles Dive Center, in collaboration with the City, the Port Authority and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, has organized for Saturday, October 9 campaign Seabed Cleaning at the Port of Cartagena, whose details have been submitted today Councillor for Sustainable Development, Isaiah Camarzana, Rafael Cano, on behalf of the Port Authority, the Vice Chancellor for Student of the UPCT, Francisco Martinez, and Raul Rodriguez, Bubbles.
It is expected that about 200 volunteers, including divers and ground support to participate in this initiative that will involve the cleaning of the seabed in the area of Faro Christmas, although staff numbers is greater will be extended to the dock of the Curra.
Areas will be identified and the divers will drop to about 10-12 feet deep in teams of two maps, gloves, and network.
Once tracked will draw funds away to find, which will then be analyzed and classified by volunteers on land, most of the UPCT students, to which this experience will serve as a training support.
For this activity, which will take place between 10.00 and 13.00 hours, there will also be supported on surface vessels, as well as Civil Defense and Red Cross, both from the sea and from land.
For this campaign, which was convened at the national level, there are already targeted 70 divers, most communities in Murcia and Valencia, although there are a number coming from places as far away as Valladolid, the Basque Country, Madrid and Albacete.
IDEA OF CONTINUITY
During the presentation of the campaign to clean up seabed at the port, organizers and partners have agreed on one point, the need to work together to sensitize people and make them aware that the sea is not a universal and spillway must take care surrounding environment.
Hence, already is thinking of giving continuity to this initiative, which joins other actions such as beach clean-up campaigns, noting that each year takes place in Calblanque also volunteers.
According to data provided by the Foundation for the Protection of Natural Environment on cleaning global seabed, in 2009 was 222 tonnes of waste collected through the work of 30,000 volunteers.
In Europe, carried out 244 official campaigns, 15 of them in Spain.
The more fundamental, which included the participation of 200 divers, managed to pick up 1,500 kilos of rubbish.
