The participants, three men and a woman, plan to start the tour on Tuesday afternoon at the Mount Blanco (La Manga), and swim in a relay without interruption to complete the journey that will last for approximately 24 hours.
During the voyage, with the permission of the Harbour of Cartagena, the swimmers will be accompanied by two boats ANSE, the boat Else, a small schooner of 15 m in length, restored to the development of follow-up work, conservation and disclosure of the shore, and a quick dinghy.
Swimmers have experience in this type of crossings, having made including the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar, but the first time you try to complete the journey from the coast of Cartagena.
Between La Manga and Isla Plana lies one of the best preserved sections of the mainland Mediterranean coast, which dominate mountain landscapes of great beauty and natural value.
Paradoxically, here too we find some heavily degraded sites (bays Portman and tailings), and new infrastructure threaten its biodiversity, particularly as major ports.
Rocky cliffs, vast prairies of Posidonia oceanica, sandbars, submarine canyons, photophilic algae communities, good people watching, seabird colonies, ... An important part of the coast of Cartagena is recognized figures regional and international protection :
- Mar Menor and its environment: LIC, SPAs and Ramsar Wetland SPAMI.
- Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas: Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest.
- Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila: Regional Park, LIC and Ramsar Wetland.
- Sierra de La Fausilla: SCI and SPA.
- Head of Roland: SCI and SPA.

Despite having so many forms of protection, only Calblanque Regional Park, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila has protection legislation in the form of Plan Natural Resources Management.
Both the Mar Menor and La Muela-Cabo Tiñoso have for years with Plan Natural Resources Management initially approved, but the lack of political interest prevents final approval.
Both swimmers ANSE as saying that, far from being a problem for economic development, conservation of nature on the coast of Cartagena, and the whole of the Region of Murcia, is an opportunity for a more balanced development model to the Spanish Mediterranean coastal regions, and a need for its people, so they can enjoy a better quality of life.
It is also indebted to our landscapes, plants and wild animals that need our help to recover some of what has been lost in decades of abuse.
Soaking in a coastal nature in an activity like swimming, day and night, is a sporting challenge but also an appeal to the rational use and enjoy our coastal landscapes still awesome.
