Two and a half hours last night, firefighters used the City of Cartagena in quelling a fire that had occurred in a container and subsequently spread to three industrial waste ponds on the grounds of the former Spanish factory Zinc in Torreciega.
The fire originated about 23 hours and initially affected a number of containers and other materials were scattered around the area, occasionally producing loud explosions in an area of 1,500 square meters.
Given the existing high fire load, the nurse asked a truck and set up two facilities AFFF foam, but the initial work of extinction had to abort the fire spread to the bombings of three ponds nearby, which also forced to withdraw trucks and site staff for the great amount of heat given off.
Finally we decided to use a truck equipped with a foam cannon powered by the nurse and a monitor that allowed monitoring the work of extinction from the cab of the vehicle.
After two hours in which we used 360 liters of foam concentrate and 21 cubic meters of water are managed to suppress the flames, which covered an area of around 5,000 square meters.
