The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, along with the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, received on Monday 19 July to 62 Sahrawi children from refugee camps in Tindouf, which will spend the summer with families from Cartagena.
The welcome ceremony will be at 13.00 hours in the Ceremonial Hall of the Town Hall.
The Department of Social Services of the City of Cartagena, has worked in the temporary care of children, with the contribution of 15,000 euros to the Association Holiday Peace.
The objective of this program is to remove these children from the harsh conditions of exile in the desert where, in summer, when temperatures can reach above 50 degrees, at the same time during your stay with us will be provided with a comprehensive and balanced diet, they perform medical examinations and enjoy living activities and, most importantly coexist within a family Cartagena as one host.
Furthermore, during their stay, children will have the opportunity to improve Spanish and discover the sea, nature and products of these two important ecosystems, being the best ambassadors of their people and creating a sense of solidarity towards their causa.Este years come to the Murcia region a total of 180 children, of which one third is left in the city of Cartagena, thanks to the solidarity of families in the municipality.
In this project supports the Association of Peace holidays, the Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi people and the Directorate General of Family and Murciano Sector and Health Service of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and municipalities like the city of Cartagena.
