The adorned balconies again became an added attraction to the Holy Week in Cartagena.
The III edition of the Balcony and Façade Beautification Contest, which on this occasion has registered more participation than in previous years, filled the streets and neighborhoods with color, meaning the symbols and images of the four brotherhoods of the Cartagena Passion Week.
The Councilor for Culture, David Martínez Noguera, has presided over the awards ceremony of the III Beautification of Balconies and Facades of Holy Week Contest.
Next to him has been the President of the Association of Women Cofrades, Victoria Botí.
Among all the balconies submitted to the contest, the jury has decided to award the first prize to the balcony of the Plaza del Risueño 9 - 1º, by Antonio Nicolás Lorca, with a € 250 prize and a diploma.
The second prize went to the hanging of Calle Jara 24 - 1º, by Antonio Ferrer Giménez, endowed with € 150 and a diploma.
The contest has also recognized, with two second prizes, Rafaela Izquierdo Martín for its balcony decorated in the Plaza del Risueño, 2B - 1º and Rita Agüera Cañavate and Caridad Batllé for the decoration of the balcony of Santa Florentina street, 22 - 1º, both awards were endowed with € 50 and diploma.
During the ceremony, which took place this Wednesday, April 18, in the Hall of receptions of the Consistorial Palace, the mayor of Culture thanked all participants in this contest their concurrence and involvement to carry out the ultimate goal of this project: decorate the city during the entire Holy Week.
He also stressed that in this edition of the contest have presented more balconies than in previous occasions, which gives an idea of ​​the great involvement that Cartagena have with their Holy Week.
The president of the Association of Women Cofrades, Victoria Botí, meanwhile, has put in value the difficult work of the jury, "the high quality that presented all the balconies has been a great challenge for the jury at the time of saying a winner ", Said Botí.
Similarly, he did not want to miss this opportunity without thanking the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Culture its great involvement with this contest.
Both the mayor of Culture, Education and Youth, David Martinez, and the president of the Association of Women Cofrades have encouraged all residents of Cartagena to participate in the next edition of this contest, which will take place during the Holy Week of 2019.
