El Rento (1898), the theatrical drama of Vicente Medina, which revolutionized his time by the revolutionary spirit he harbored in defense of Huerta's language, comes, thanks to Cartagena Piensa, to the Assembly Hall of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center on Thursday, the 19th of April at 8 pm with an adaptation to the current time by the hand of director David Soria.
Santa, the young daughter of humble workers will have to decide whether to marry Andrés, the majority of some lands, so that her parents do not have problems with the debts of the rento, or if on the contrary she continues with the love of her childhood: José .
What will be your decision?
The Association of the Historical Memory of Cartagena organizes this adaptation to the theatrical representation that already in the nineties had a very good reception by the national critic, and that was born with the objective of dignifying the Huerta language, used comically throughout the years at carnival parties.
VICENTE MEDINA
Sensitive and observant, Medina knew how to capture, as before, the depths of Huerta's spirit, extracting inspiration and inspiration from this land and its people to compose poems in which bitterness and despair often flowed: violent passions , perseverance, abnegation, tenderness, picturesque news, customs, beliefs and superstitions.
Among his works are Alma del Pueblo, Abonico y Alla Lejicos and his fundamental work, Aires Murcianos, testimony of a people made by a sensitive and privileged witness, a nostalgic and heartfelt, lyrical and realistic vision of a land and its people .
