From Thursday 19 and until Saturday 21 April, will take place the International Congress "Public Baths of Hispania", whose objective is to update and discuss all the information about the public thermal urban complexes of Hispania, as exponents of Romany and of the dissemination of habits and lifestyles inherent in the Roman world, in addition to making known the Termas del Puerto specialists, put on value by Cartagena Port of Cultures in the Barrio del Foro Romano.
This congress is organized by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, the University of Murcia and the UNED, with the collaboration of Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Office of Congresses of Cartagena, and will be held in the Archaeological Museum of the Region of Murcia (MAM), the Windmill Park and the Roman Theater Museum.
With the participation of scientists specialized in the field of ancient thermalism, 51 papers will be presented, distributed in 12 general papers, 18 specific papers on Hispanic public hot springs (Spanish and Portuguese) and a total of 21 posters.
The speakers come from five European countries (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom).
Through lectures commissioned to renowned specialists, the program of the congress is structured in three essential blocks: 1) general and transversal themes (origin, typology, urbanism, evergetism, decoration, supply, provincial reality ...) presented under the format of invited papers;
2) Invited papers with updates of the public thermal reality in each of the Hispanic provinces;
and 3) presentation and study of relevant and topical cases, under the format of posters, which will allow presenting, discussing and publishing a large amount of information currently scattered.
The inaugural lecture will be given by Dr. Maura Medri (Università degli Studi Roma Tre, one of the largest international experts in the field of public Roman baths), which will deal with urban public hot springs taking as a backbone the reality of Ostia Antica
The closing conference, which will take place in the Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena, will be borne by the Dras.
Carmen Fernández Ochoa (Autonomous University of Madrid), Mar Zarzalejos Prieto and Virginia García-Entero (UNED) (the most outstanding representatives of the study of the Roman Roman baths) and will consist of a balance on the investigation of the Hispanic baths in the last two decades
