The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, announced in her appearance at the Special Commission of the Mar Menor of the Regional Assembly, which will ask the Government of Spain for a Comprehensive Plan for the salt lake, since its survival is a State problem.
The mayor has also asked that the institutions return to the Participation Committee, "because their opinion is fundamental" and has demanded that the decisions adopted follow the guidelines set by the Scientific Committee.
Ana Belén Castejón, who has appeared this morning with the other mayors and mayors of the riverside municipalities, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to express the vision of the town hall in Cartagena, about the present and future of the lagoon.
In this sense, he has referred to the sentimental character that the Mar Menor has in the memory of the Cartagena people and to the process "plagued by errors that has led us to this situation".
It has also referred to the Mar Menor as one of the most important engines of economic and social activity in the region and has recalled the interventions in the commission of the teachers Ángel Pérez Ruzafa and Miguel Ángel Esteve who told how they were making mistakes and neglecting the warnings;
and the shame, indignation and anger that this fact causes in the majority of the citizens.
Ana Belén Castejón has claimed the role of the Scientific Committee and the Citizen Participation Committee in solving the problem;
and has asked that the recommendations made by the Scientific Committee be scrupulously respected;
and that the maximum social consensus be retaken in the actions that are carried out, given the abandonment in the last weeks of some of the entities that were part of this Committee of Social Participation.
MEASURES AND COORDINATION BETWEEN ADMINISTRATIONS
The mayor has also asked to articulate all the necessary measures to ensure the maximum coordination of the administrations and the support to the town halls.
Castejón has related a series of concrete measures to face this summer, which go through the support in the cleanings of the beaches in the way that the Scientific Commission recommends;
and the construction of spas that solve the sludge problem while the funds are being regenerated and made suitable for bathing.
It has also called for the immediate start-up of actions to advance the design of the Mar Menor of the future, complementary to the measures of environmental regeneration and spill control, including the urban moratorium;
the plan of sanitation and treatment for all the oldest urban centers;
the agricultural conversion plan, which encourages and encourages the transition from an intensive agriculture to a more ecological one;
economic measures and incentives and tax exemptions that support the creation of new businesses and contribute to maintaining existing ones;
a plan for social and cultural revitalization in the entire coastal area of ​​the Mar Menor;
the express and restrictive regulation of the use of motor boats and a plan to expressly encourage sailing vessels, as well as a decontamination plan for mining soils.
Last but not least, the mayor has requested the approval by the Government of Spain of a Special Plan for the Mar Menor, given that it is a state problem and for which she hopes to have the support of the president of the Autonomous Community .
