The Heritage Coordinator of MC Cartagena, María Dolores Ruiz, has received notification from the Directorate General of Cultural Property of the CARM in which she is informed of the initiation of the file 99/2018, to require the property urgent protection measures and conservation of the hermitages of Monte Miral 1, 5 and 6.
María Dolores Ruiz has announced that "according to the book of Professor Alejando Egea Vivancos, on which we rely to request the modification of the file of declaration of San Ginés de la Jara, the hermitage 1 is the original hermitage of the angels and the most important From the hermitage 6, there are only remnants that could see the light only through an archaeological excavation ".
"This is an important advance, because by the Ministry of the Law, the hermitages are protected since the opening of this file," he said.
It should be remembered that this is the third time that this protection has been requested since January 2016, urging in the first place the modification of the BIC declaration file of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara, which only includes three hermitages.
They obtained a resolution by the administrative body on June 5, 2014, which obliged the company Portman Golf to consolidate them urgently.
Resolution that, as of today, is still pending execution.
The modification requested, including chapels 1, 5 and 6, and another file requesting the initiation of the Cultural Interest of the Pilgrimage of San Ginés de la Jara, were dismissed by the General Directorate of Cultural Property, which initiates the Procedure of the Historic Site of the Miral on February 16, 2017, including both requests.
Already in a report of June 21, 2016, the architect of the General Directorate, José Buendía López, indicates that on March 25, 2014, 4 hermitages of Monte Miral were visited, which "were included in the census of Assets of the Heritage Service However, according to subsequent reports of the Technical Cataloging Services, dated 12/15/2014 and 12/05/2015, in the decree declaring the Cultural Interest of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara and Hermitages of the Monte Miral, there are only three hermitages, which are the ones in which the presented project intervenes, therefore, the fourth hermitage and, where appropriate, the possible remains of the others that are mentioned in the listed cataloging reports, are lacking at this moment of the protection provided for in Law 4/2007 for property that forms part of the Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, although the fourth hermitage is at least in the protection environment of the BIC defined in the aforementioned declaration decree.
The conservation of this hermitage is similar to that of the other three, and the measures to be adopted in it are similar, although the state of conservation of the possible remains of the other hermitages is not known, so it is necessary that, in the first place, , these properties are endowed with protection that guarantees their conservation and that allows the pertinent measures to be adopted for it ".
Ruiz has argued that "being the head of the Agency of Culture of CARM the dismissed Noelia Arroyo and Maria Comas, our requests were ignored twice allowing, despite the technical reports that supported our request, continued unprotected and have continued to deteriorate "

María Dolores Ruiz has continued explaining that "in the case of hermitages, they have not even been protected since their declaration on 2, 3 and 4, there is graphic documentation that the hermitage number 3 was complete in 2003 and now half is missing , because of the detachments that have occurred due to lack of conservation ".
Finally, he concluded by stating that "we celebrate that the new counselor and general director of Cultural Property, despite his initial reluctance, have put the batteries and comply with the law, because at this point after the negligence and inability demonstrated by Arroyo and Comas is until good news to be done what the law says and protect assets whose plunder have been consented by successive policy makers, always to the detriment of the Campo de Cartagena, as happens with Monte Miral, the Cathedral, the Casa del Uncle Wolf or Villa Calamari.
