This summer the young people of Cartagena will enjoy many fun and educational activities that will be developed within the framework of the "Leisure and Free Time" program organized by the Department of Education of the City of Cartagena.
Due to the demand that exists on the part of the students, in this new edition, the offered places have been extended until reaching a total of 1485 distributed among all the activities.
The mayor of Education, David Martinez, presented on Wednesday, April 11, the activities that make up the summer program 2018, who has been accompanied by the coordinator of the Department of Education, José Carlos Fernández.
Thus, the Councilor for Education has pointed out that with these programs for non-school periods, such as Christmas and summer, it is intended to offer leisure and free time alternatives that encourage the personal development of students, "as well as help family conciliation with an educational service that is adapted to the needs of those families whose vacations do not coincide with school ones, "he added.
This new edition of the program comes loaded with new features that the council has had to add due to the influx of students that this program had during the past year.
For these reasons, the Taller del Mar activity has been extended in one shift and will also be carried out in the month of August, which means a total extension of 80 places, so that all the interested students can be accommodated.
In addition, among the novelties of this summer 2018 highlights the activity "Come sing and dance", in which young people with concerns and aptitudes for these disciplines can improve their technique or start in this world.With the inclusion of these novelties, the final offer of seats goes from 1,390 offered in 2017 to 1,485 for this 2018.
On the other hand, the location of musical activities has been changed, which until now had been carried out at the Conservatory of Cartagena, but due to the celebration this year of coinciding activities will not be possible, so they are moved to the Equipment Center and resources of Cartagena Carmen Conde.
It is a large municipal area and equipped to carry out these activities, "with a central location and comfortable for families to take and pick up children enrolled", as indicated by David Martinez.
In addition, one more year, the young people of the municipality can enjoy the completion of the activities of Road Education, free of charge, and the Musical Colonies, which shows the commitment of the City of Cartagena with the musical culture of their environment.
Also, the mayor of Education, has highlighted the importance of programming summer activities in the schools "Asdrúbal" of Lo Campano, "Aníbal" of Los Mateos and "Stella Maris" of the neighborhood Virgen de la Caridad, which will take through the RASCASA Association, which will continue to work in these neighborhoods with a population at risk of social exclusion, with the aim of facilitating an open space for coexistence between children during the summer period, which promotes leisure, sports and cultural activities and social for the promotion of the responsible use of free time and leisure.
The Summer Schools with dining room also have their place in this large program, with them, the Department of Education seeks that children have fun and learn, but have a more essential sense, because "is intended to cover the primary needs of all children, and that those students who have received a scholarship to the cafeteria during the course can continue to eat, "said the mayor of Education.
This year, in addition, changes the procedure for the allocation of places, which will no longer be carried out by order of registration but will be done by means of a public drawing in all those activities where there is more demand than places offered, excluding Summer Schools and Activities in Neighborhoods of Preferential Attention, which will be governed in accordance with other criteria, such as the achievement of a scholarship;
the employment situation of the parents or the economic income.
The registration period begins on Wednesday 11 at 11:00 am and will remain open until Sunday April 22, at 2:00 pm, and can be done through the City Council website.
