The regional government of the PP decided in 2010 to abolish the Institute for Women in the Region of Murcia, which was created under the protection of Law 12/2002, of December 3, as an autonomous body, administrative nature, attached to the competent Ministry in matters of women and endowed with legal personality, own assets and full capacity to act for the fulfillment of its purposes.
At the beginning of this legislature, the Podemos parliamentary group took a motion to the Plenary of the autonomous Parliament that was approved with the favorable votes of PSOE, Podemos and Ciudadanos, and the vote against the PP, to request the inclusion of a specific item for the restitution of the Regional Institute for Women, and the necessary legislative changes, in order that the direction of said Institute be chosen by the Regional Assembly to guarantee its independence.
Two years later, the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has not taken any steps to implement the agreements that, we reiterate, had the support of the majority of the Chamber.
The social reality of the Region of Murcia, which was manifested in the great historical mobilization of March 8, - also very numerous in Cartagena, requires that public administrations work rigorously and giving the importance that public policies deserve to achieve real equality.
For all this, the councilor Teresa Sanchez will present at the next plenary session a motion for the City of Cartagena to urge the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia to comply with the approval in November 2015 within the Autonomous Parliament as regarding the Women's Institute, to proceed with the restitution of this body.
