The Gypsy People celebrated its international day with the raising of its flag and the reading of a manifesto (09/04/2018)

The Gipsy Town celebrated its international day yesterday in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Cartagena, where its flag was raised while the hymn 'Gelem, Gelem' played and the reading of the Gypsy Manifesto was carried out, as well as the delivery of plaques commemorative

Various theater, dance and music performances were also carried out by groups such as the Evangelical Cities Refugio Church and the Lo Campano Cultural and Sports Association, among others.

The act was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, along with other councilors of the Coporación and regional deputies.

Castejón began his speech with a greeting addressed to the attendees, especially the Gypsy People who attended the Town Hall Square, and then proceeded, for the first time, to hoist their flag.

The flag of the Gypsy People includes two horizontal stripes: one of blue color that symbolizes the sky and another one of green color that symbolizes the field.

In the center it has a wheel, which symbolizes the freedom and the itinerant character of this town, distributed all over the world.

The councilor said at a press conference that took place last week to present the commemorative events that were to take place on the occasion of this international day, when he was deputy mayor acquired this commitment to this group and after taking office the mayor began to work to "be able to celebrate this day as the Gypsy Town deserves".
