A total of 265 monuments and buildings of Spain, among which is the Consistorial Palace of Cartagena, have been illuminated during these days to mark the World Day of Awareness on Autism, within the framework of the awareness campaign 'Let's break together barriers for autism.
Let's make an accessible society. '
On the occasion of this day, the Association for people with autism spectrum disorder of Murcia (Asteamur) has prepared an activity in Cartagena to give visibility to the group, so today Monday April 2 from 12 to 14 hours will be installed an information table in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Cartagena in order to raise awareness among citizens about autism, its symptoms and its needs.
On Monday, April 2, a free Tourist Route will be held in the Plaza de la Merced from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and adapted by the streets and modernist buildings of the city, which has been called The Blue Side of Cartagena .
It is an adapted activity because at the same time that families can enjoy the information of an official guide, the children will play games in each building with the leisure instructors and the Asteamur therapeutic team and the route will end at the Town Hall, that will be illuminated in blue.
Some of the buildings that have been illuminated have also been the Congress of Deputies, the Reina Sofia National Art Museum, Fundación Telefónica, Bankia Tower, and the Círculo de Bellas Artes, in Madrid;
the Sagrada Familia, the MACBA, the Real Club Deportivo Espanyol and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in Barcelona;
the Millennium Dome in Valladolid;
the Parliament of Navarre;
the Momos Palace in Zamora, the Aqueduct of Segovia, the City Council of Malaga, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Provincial Council of Albacete, the Hejduko Towers of Santiago de Compostela and the Metropol Parasol of Seville ("Las Setas"), among others.
With this campaign, coordinated with Autism Europe, the associative movement of autism in Spain seeks to make visible the barriers faced each day by people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families, with two main objectives: that society understand what those barriers are, since that will allow a better adaptation to the needs of people with ASD and reinforce their inclusion in all social areas;
and that society becomes involved and acts, thus helping to "break barriers for autism and make society more accessible".
As a gesture of solidarity, the entities representing autism have asked anyone who wants to join the campaign to upload a photo with the hashtag #DiaMundialAutismo to social networks, making the gesture of "breaking barriers for autism", using the poster of the campaign that can be downloaded at the following link: diamundialautismo.com/difunde-el-dia/
