The training Cartagena applauds the invaluable work done by D. Antonio Bermejo for the benefit of the most disadvantaged
In recent dates, MC Cartagena has adhered to the open dossier for the award of the Gold Medal of the city of Cartagena to Mr. Antonio Bermejo Hurtado, parish priest of Vista Alegre, known in the popular collection as the 'worker priest'.
The adhesion has been communicated by the president of the cartagenerista formation, Jesús Giménez.
The aforementioned file is the result of an initiative that emerged during the two years of Mayor of José López (MC Cartagena), finally counting on the unanimous support of the entire Corporation.
A life dedicated to serving the needy
The future award of the highest distinction is guaranteed by the indisputable values transmitted by Bermejo, his dedication and closeness to the people, stripped of any pedestal, which earned him the nickname of 'worker priest'.
Always, positioning yourself at the side of the most disadvantaged, working side by side with them.
A vocation of service to the neighbor that, surely, placed him closer to the message of Christ than to that of the Church.
MC Cartagena describes in his writing the discretion of a man who developed his professional work for years in the central 'Ayala Perfumery', making an effort to earn money that he would then use to favor the neighbors of Vista Alegre.
A population that favored its progressive character, helping together with the neighbors in the purpose of changing society, an achievement that we can attribute to making Vista Alegre a safer and more livable place.
The needy always found their house open.
To share what I had, a lot or a little.
In the same way, he promoted the festivities of the town and the concerts that were organized there, an incentive to attract neighbors from other areas.
In his argument, MC alludes to the affection of the people who have known him as the greatest asset of D. Antonio, and that predisposition to help those who needed him, believer or non-believer, always prioritizing these cases even above their obligations, what has won him affections and admiration.
Finally, the Cartagena appreciates the fact that he was the priest who celebrated the last Mass in Santa María la Mayor, after years of silence.
It was on July 27, 2016, coinciding with the opening of the Cathedral of Cartagena carried out by the Diocese, which thus complied with the Cultural Heritage Law of the Region, norm that obliges the owners of the declared BIC properties to open them to the public four days a month.
