The outdoor athletics season begins in Cartagena with the celebration of the XXXII Ciudad de Cartagena Athletics Trophy, which will be held at the Athlete's Memorial, Oscar Sánchez Andreo.
The event will be held at the Municipal Athletics Track of Cartagena on Holy Wednesday, March 28.
Between 16:45 and 18:45 on Holy Wednesday there will be about 30 events in different disciplines such as: discus throw, javelin throw, shot put, height and long jump, and hurdles and hurdles races. speed, both in the male and female categories.
The entrance to the Municipal Athletics Track of Cartagena will be free for the public.
The Councilor for Sports, Obdulia Gómez, was commissioned to present this Monday, March 26, the 'Ciudad de Cartagena' Athletics Trophy.
The president of the Athletics Club Elcano, Alfredo Castilla and the director of the athletics events, Patricia Paz, have offered all the details.
The test has the support of the City of Cartagena through the Department of Sports;
the General Directorate of Sports of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, the Sports Service of the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia and the Athletics Club Elcano and Cartagena, among others.
The Councilor for Sports wanted to highlight the figure of the honoree, Oscar Sánchez Andreo, with a few words about the athletic career of the average athlete.
"The one who was a Ucam athlete and also a coach of the Athletics Club of Alhama, who died in September last year, was a very significant and endearing person, who did a lot for athletics in Cartagena", highlighted Gómez.
Regarding the number of participants, more than 400, the organizers have been very satisfied by the good response that the registration is having, which closes at the end of this same March 26.
So far in the absolute category 93 men and 166 women are registered.
For its part, the child also has a good number of participants: 66 boys and 135 girls.
The director of the tests, Patricia Paz, has been very satisfied that the high female participation was so high, proof that promoting this sport among women is paying off.
On the other hand, the president of the Athletics Club Elcano, Alfredo Castilla, as organizer of the tests of minors in this trophy, wanted to emphasize the importance of having the minors' tests coincide with the tests of the elders, so that there is an approach among athletes of different ages.
In addition, he highlighted the pedagogical and didactic nature of this trophy.
The trophy will be held at the Municipal Athletics Track of Cartagena on Wednesday, March 28, starting at 4:45 pm with free admission.
