Alsa will improve communications in the western area and the hospital in Santa Lucia (17/03/2018)

The City of Cartagena continues to work to facilitate the lives of citizens who live in neighborhoods and councils.

One of the main objectives set by the Government team, which is headed by Mayor Ana Belén Castejón, is to improve the public transport service, with special emphasis on the western area, which is the one with the greatest needs.

The new vehicles that the mayor has presented Saturday are "the result of our firm commitment to improve the communications of our neighborhoods and councils through public transport."

In this way, it has been agreed with the concessionaire company Alsa to launch, as a pilot experience, a circular service that runs throughout the western area and that links with the bus line 6 that connects Molinos Marfagones with the city center , and that will start working in May.

"The schedules and frequencies of this pilot experience are being agreed with the neighbors.

During a period of one month and at cost 0 for the City Council, the effectiveness of this new service will be verified, so that when the 2018 Budgets are approved, it will be definitively implemented ", explained Castejón.

The itinerary is Molinos Marfagones, Cuesta Blanca, Los Puertos, Tallante, Los Puertos, Perin, Cuesta Blanca, San Isidro, La Magdalena and Molinos Marfagones, whose approximate duration is 50 minutes.

Once back in Molinos Marfagones users must make a transfer with line 6 that will take them to the different stops of Cartagena.

Greater accessibility

In addition, two hyperaccessible buses will be added to improve line 18 that connects Cartagena with the Santa Lucía hospital.

These new vehicles have an innovative positioning system with optical and acoustic elements and Braille inscriptions on the stop buttons.

In the same way, they have installed a special ramp with a led light band, anti-obstacle rail and anti-slip mat.

It also has space to accommodate up to two wheelchairs.

The concessionaire of the service has invested a total of 837,276 euros in these three new vehicles and has committed to the mayor to continue renewing the urban bus fleet.

The improvements in the transport service have meant an increase of 4.26% of passengers in recent years, exceeding in 2017 the 5 million passengers per year.
