- "We have said it many times, Cartagena can not live isolated from the world, and so far, it has been excluded from all the collaboration networks that have been promoted at the national level and that is something that our Municipal Group wants to correct with its motions ", said the spokesman of the orange formation, Manuel Padín
At the beginning of 2015, the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS) was born.
One of its objectives is to mobilize and sensitize Spanish society, public institutions and the private sector to become more aware of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as to promote the incorporation of these challenges into public policies.
The REDS aims to help entities in the resolution of practical problems on sustainable development and focuses its activity on four priority areas: energy, water, biodiversity and gender.
The Municipal Citizens Group will propose at the next ordinary plenary session that the City of Cartagena adhere to this network.
According to the orange training, with its inclusion, Cartagena will be able to learn about sustainable development projects organized by members of the network, that is, local or regional initiatives that can make important contributions to sustainable development;
and to be advised for the diagnosis of the challenges in this area of local character and for the elaboration of strategies.
"We have said many times, Cartagena can not live isolated from the world, and so far, has been excluded from all the networks of collaboration that have been promoted at the national level and that is something that our Municipal Group is correcting with their motions ", said the spokesman of the orange training, Manuel Padín, who explained that there is" a working group formed by different cities with the aim of identifying practical solutions to improve urban management, where long-term action frameworks are designed In the short term, they share good practices and connect work at the municipal level with political discussions at the global level, why should they remain outside these knowledge networks? "asks Padín.
For the spokesperson of Cs, "this work program promotes inclusive cities and demonstrates how the Sustainable Development Goals are possible in such important urban areas as those of Cartagena".
2030 Agenda
In September 2015, the Network of Solutions for Sustainable Development (SDSN), the parent company of REDS, launched a global declaration for the cities on the occasion of the approval of the New Sustainability Agenda.
More than 40 mayors and local leaders from around the world met in New York and signed the manifesto.
REDS and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) support this manifesto and have urged all Spanish municipalities to sign this "Declaration of commitment of cities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".
Membership is done through an online form.
Citizens will include in their motion, the adhesion of the City Council to this declaration.
