The Polytechnic University of Cartagena has held on Thursday the second edition of the Campus Chair of Enterprise.
It is an event of a technological nature in which novelties have been addressed in sectors as diverse as cybersecurity, industry 4.0, agriculture or entrepreneurship.
Co-hosted by a state-of-the-art robot, the day brought together more than 500 people and has served to highlight the work carried out by the 36 business chairs that the UPCT has.
"Today we unite companies and researchers with students and future students and show them the technologies behind the 4.0 industry, virtual reality or the future of agriculture so that they can see the transformation potential of the world that has the training we teach in the UPCT ", explained the rector, Alejandro Díaz.
"The innovative and pioneering national formula of the Network of Chairs of the UPCT is the best example of the proximity that should exist between Business and University," said counselor Juan Hernández.
The first to participate in the conference was Chema Alonso, Telefónica's data manager.
Through a videoconference, he has responded to issues related to cybersecurity, big data or artificial intelligence, indicating that "companies that do not advance in this line will lose competitiveness".
Also, he encouraged to take advantage of all the possibilities offered by the university to innovate and investigate.
After him, David del Pino spoke about the future of agriculture and how it will be directly related to the future of humanity.
The starting point is that in the year 2050 it is estimated that there will be 9,000 million people in the world, which will cause "it is necessary to double the production of food, something that with the current reality is not clear how it is going to do".
The CEO of Freshtrategy pointed out some solutions that are already beginning to be put on the table and that have to do with innovation and the use of technology "using big data, geolocation or biotechnological development".
Frank Escandell, director of business development at Streye, focused his presentation on technological entrepreneurship and offered the students present at the day a series of guidelines to follow from the experience accumulated in a company that this week has been designated as a partner world exclusive for the marketing of the new Google Glass.
Creating meaning, innovating to change the lives of people, betting on doing something unique or having courage and audacity as fundamental elements of leadership were some of the clues that contributed.
For his part, Juan Luis Muñoz and Mario Benito, members of the department of development of new products for platform control and navigation systems of Navantia, explained how the technology facilitates training for the use of military vessels using as an example the Navantis simulator, which Your company has developed and that the attendees had at their disposal.
It is a simulator to learn the use of machine and bridge equipments of a ship in different scenarios, using an integrated platform control system (SICP) that allows to remotely control the machinery and the virtualized control panels. the piloting
The last intervention revolved around the network of Chairs of the UPCT.
The Minister of Employment, Enterprise and Universities, Juan Hernández, and the rector of the University, Alejandro Díaz, discussed the relationship between companies and universities, and how the chairs can contribute to the development of all sectors.
The day, which was broadcast by streaming and followed on social networks with the hashtag #IICampusCatedra, also included the awarding of prizes to the best students working at the end of the degree and the master's degree developed by students of the University and with the participation of , among others, Alejandro Pérez Pastor, vice-rector of the UPCT, and representatives of all companies with chairs.

The Network of Chairs of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is composed of 36 technology, entrepreneurship and socio-economic chairs in which leading companies and organizations participate in different sectors.
All of them carry out training, research and development or knowledge transfer activities in areas of common interest.
In 2017, the Network of Chairs accumulated revenues of € 756,778, of which € 123,350 were allocated to R & D projects carried out under the chairs.
Likewise, during 2017, 72 scholarships and 19 prizes were awarded for end-of-degree projects and master's thesis.
The Network of Chairs occupies a space of more than 1,500 square meters, a space assigned to companies within the University to develop R & D & I activities.
They are, in their majority, in the Innovation Laboratories Building, in the Muralla del Mar campus.
